Aston Villa player ratings: Keeper and striker star in Tottenham win
We rate the players after Villa claim a big win in London.
ZION SUZUKI
Confirmed his standing as the best of the summer signings so far with four saves to ensure Villa didn’t dig themselves an early hole.
Saves 8
AARON WAN-BISSAKA
Beaten far too easily at times and was sloppy on the ball. Doesn’t look a player brimming with confidence and subbed at the break.
Poor 5
VICTOR LINDELOF
Strong in the heart of a defence which had to withstand an awful lot of pressure in the early stages. Rarely lets Villa down.
Solid 7
TYRONE MINGS
A really good performance from the centre-back, who always seemed to be in the right place to win the header. Showed good positioning.
Strong 7
MATTEO RUGGERI
A mixed bag. Struggled early on but then got into the match and provided a threat. Then lost the ball in the build-up to Gallagher’s goal.
Mixed 6
JOAO GOMES
Showed some real tenacity in his first Premier League appearance since the opening day. Helped Villa control things in the second half.
Busy 7
BOUBACAR KAMARA
A much better performance than a week previously. His scuffed shot ended up being the perfect set-up for Manzambi.
Better 6
JOHN MCGINN
Not for the first time the skipper typified Villa’s workrate. Didn’t enjoy the best of starts, just like the team, but bossed it for long periods of the second half.
Relentless 7
JOHAN MANZAMBI
This was very promising. You could not call this a perfect performance but you could visibly see him growing in confidence.
Promising 7
EMI BUENDIA
There is something about this stadium the midfielder seems to really like. Another stunning goal to add to his collection. Poor start, excellent finish.
Thumping 7
NICOLAS JACKSON
An excellent centre-forward’s performance. Led the line well, always providing an outlet. Showed excellent skill to score.
Goal 8
SUBSTITUTES
