Wolves v West Brom: Update issued on escort arrangements from station to Molineux

Neither force confirmed whether an escort from Wolverhampton Station to Molineux would be in operation

Police have confirmed additional officers will be deployed for Sunday’s Black Country derby – but have stopped short of confirming whether away supporters will receive a police escort to and from Molineux.

Both West Midlands Police and British Transport Police were asked whether Albion fans would be escorted between Wolverhampton railway station and the ground amid preparations for the highly-anticipated fixture.

Neither force confirmed whether an escort would be in operation, following a joint statement from both clubs which confirmed specific arrangements will be in place after the final whistle to help both sets of supporters leave Molineux safely.

West Midlands Police said arrangements concerning supporters travelling by train were a matter for British Transport Police, but confirmed that they would be making their own statement ahead of the game on Saturday.

BTP said it had a “full policing plan” in place for the fixture, including additional resources and a highly visible police presence.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “We have a full policing plan in place for Wolverhampton Wanderers fixture against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.

“This includes additional resources allocated to the game and a highly visible presence of officers.

“As is always the case with football policing, we’re working closely with our colleagues at West Midlands Police, train operators and the clubs involved to ensure fans can travel to these matches and home again safely.

“We’d like to remind passengers that they can text us on 61016 if they have any concerns while travelling.”

Albion supporters will be required to leave the stadium via Camp Street.

Wolves supporters will not be able to access the area behind the Steve Bull Stand following the match and have been asked to use alternative routes.

Fans have also been urged to follow instructions from stewards and police officers as they leave the stadium.

Routes and access arrangements could be temporarily changed if required for safety reasons.
