Popular Ghost Stories to tour UK and offer free events in the Black Country

Since 2009 A.G. Smith has been writing and performing his Weeping Bank tales at theatres, libraries and community venues across the UK. The readings remained annual events for many years, but since being joined by lifelong friend Robert Whitehouse in 2023 the Weeping Bank name has become high-profile and the tours now run all year round for consistently packed audiences.

In 2024 Weeping Bank performed 27 shows including an acclaimed headline performance at the UK Ghost Story Festival. Already fully booked for 2025 including theatre shows in London, Wolverhampton, Leeds and Liverpool.

Always keen to support their beloved Black Country, Weeping Bank have partnered with Arts Council England to bring five free events to Dudley Libraries. This mini-tour began in December with a sold out show at Dudley Library that saw music legend Robert Plant in attendance. Halesowen Library also drew a packed crowd for the March show and next will be Stourbridge Library in May – already half-sold out.

"It’s wonderful to be able to perform these stories in the Black Country," A.G. Smith told us, "this is where Rob and I grew up and it has such a rich heritage of horror and ghost stories. Legends of the golden era of cinema including James Whale and Sir Cedric Hardwicke were born in the Black Country, it’s nice to think that Weeping Bank is now becoming part of that cultural horror map."

"Weeping Bank bridges the gap between Audible and Theatre," Rob Whitehouse explains, "these are unique readings. We have nothing but positive reactions from our audience and people return year after year to hear a new Weeping Bank tale. The sky is the limit for where this will all go next. In the last 12 months we have rubbed shoulders with British Horror Aristocracy and Weeping Bank has become a name that is immediately recognised with quality writing and performance. Audiences jump out of their seat in fright."
