Step-Up for Smart Works challenges people in the West Midlands to take 10,000 steps every day during the month to raise both awareness and funds for the vital work the charity does. 2025 marks a significant milestone for Smart Works, reaching the end of the charity’s three-year plan whereby it will have supported 10,000 women into the workplace.

“We are very excited to bring people together from all walks of life to support women in need,” commented Ann Powell, Centre Manager of Smart Works Birmingham. “International Women’s Day is a cause very close to our hearts and every step forward counts towards giving women who face barriers into employment the confidence to re-enter the workplace. Their success doesn’t just change their lives, it strengthens the communities around them too.”

Those interested in participating can register online at any point in March, joining solo or as a team of up to five, and begin counting their steps with a fundraising goal of £200. All steps add up, so whether it’s going on a hike or just completing the coffee run, all efforts help to keep this vital service running.

The funds raised through Step Up for Smart Works will help the Birmingham centre continue to provide clients with free work outfits, styling sessions and professional interview and career coaching. The Birmingham Centre has supported over 4,000 women into work since it was set up in 2016 and through the support of the local community, they can continue to foster a ripple effect of confidence throughout the West Midlands.
