The contribution of £2,175 from the Margaret Westwood Memorial Charity to Baxter College takes the total raised to more than £10,000.
Andrew Macpherson, science teacher and DofE leader, said: “This is a massive boost to our appeal and we are deeply indebted to the charity for supporting us.”
The internationally-renowned award scheme is recognised for teaching young people skills for life and Baxter College began offering the Bronze Award to all Year 9 students during the Covid pandemic.
Covid constraints meant the expedition element had to be completed in two separate days without an overnight camp. The adaptations were lifted last year and, although the school had some camping equipment, it did not have enough for such large numbers.
Peter Sugg, chair of the Margaret Westwood Memorial Charity, devoted to enhancing the physical, education and moral welfare of Worcestershire children and young people, said: “We are delighted to support the school’s appeal, offering students the chance to build skills, confidence, self-esteem and resilience through the DofE scheme.”

The appeal, started just over a year ago, has already attracted sizeable donations, including £5,000 from the Sebright Foundation, £1,000 from Bewdley Rotary Club, £1,000 from a parent and £900 from Kidderminster and District Lions Club.
Other welcomed donations have come from a local resident and the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes.
Mr Macpherson added: “We are so grateful to all those who have generously responded to our appeal. It has already allowed us to take 80 students on the camping expedition this last summer and more students will benefit in future years.
“We hope we can reach our target soon and any donations will be most appreciated.”
