Guitar and vocal due hoping to be Walsall's next big thing

In 2024 a guitar teacher and former pupil took the leap to the stage and began finding bookings at local venues to perform. Fast forward a year and Evie and Jez of the Evie Ranford Duo are being contacted every other day with gig offers and opportunities.

"We weren't entirely sure how 2025 was going to play out" said Jez Morel who plays guitar and deals with bookings "a slow start was something we had anticipated but we an offer to play on January 3 and then I started getting messages from a lot of venues and managed to book out every weekend until the end of May. I'd never experienced anything like it!"

When not doing gigs Evie has been excelling at college and working hard on her studies. Gigs usually take place at the weekends so she has time to study in the week.

Jez teaches guitar and bass at various schools and at Walsall Arena and manages bookings when not at work.

"It's been so easy" he said "I'll get a message asking which dates we're free and I'll message back and get a date booked. It's not difficult at all. A lot of places know who we are now and they seem to enjoy the songs we play and the dynamic we have."

Jez is 38 and very grateful for the opportunity to be gigging.

"I've played in bands and in several projects since I was 17 but I love being in a duo. Evie is a wonderful singer and she's very placid. She doesn't have a big ego and is easy to get along with."

With the warmer months coming up, Jez in confident that their diary will be full up for the year by the time summer comes.

The Evie Ranford Duo have been particularly popular in Lichfield and Burntwood with many people coming to see them when they're advertised.

They're very grateful for the opportunities they've been offered and are looking forward to playing new venues.
