Blists Hill Victorian Town is hosting Victorian Food Week, with the opportunity to explore the history of Victorian food at a live cooking demonstration and in hands-on activities. The indomitable Mrs Clack will help Constable Jarrett prepare food for his dinner party. On a special trail visitors will be able to taste some of the more unusual things that Victorians ate, like jellied eels or workhouse gruel. In the town’s exhibits they can help the Victorian residents with cooking chores like butter churning and shaping bread or print a ‘Wanted’ poster to find the dastardly baker who has been replacing flour with other awful ingredients in his bread.
At Coalport China Museum, children can get hands-on with clay at a special food-themed workshop. They will be challenged with creating the most realistic looking edible items they can from air dry clay. They will be able to take their culinary creations home ready to paint a few days later.
At Enginuity, children will take part in a series of science experiments using everyday ingredients and be wowed by the amazing things you can do. Using ingredients like chocolate, milk and cornflour, the activity will show how science is integral to cooking.
