Healthcare organisations in the Black Country are teaming up to give a ‘behind the scenes’ look at healthcare over a week-long period.

Between 8am on Monday, 3 February to 7pm on Sunday, 9 February, NHS staff will be posting photos and videos on social media to show the wide range of people and situations they work with in a typical day.

Organisations taking part include Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, NHS Black Country Integrated Care Board, The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, West Midlands Ambulance Service, with our four local authority partners also supporting.

Over the week, the spotlight will be on a variety of hard-working staff and services, including how virtual wards are working to support patients at home, primary care access, urgent mental health services, vaccinations and screenings, same day joint replacements and a behind the scenes look at the ambulance service.

Joe Chadwick-Bell, Chair of the Black Country Urgent and Emergency Care Board, said: “Our teams across the Black Country are working tirelessly to ensure patients have access to high quality services in the right place at the right time, delivered by the right professional.

“By documenting one week in healthcare, it gives us the perfect opportunity to showcase some of the fantastic initiatives in place across the Black Country that are helping people stay healthy at home, avoid attendance at hospital where possible and helping to get people home quickly with the right care and treatment. It will shine a spotlight on the hardworking staff within each organisation across the Black Country, showing the range of people and health issues that they deal with during a realistic week in healthcare services.

“With demand on our services higher than ever, it’s also important that local people play their part this winter by choosing the right healthcare service for their needs. By taking simple steps like using pharmacies for minor ailments, getting vaccinated against respiratory illnesses such as flu if you’re eligible, and using NHS 111 for advice, you can help us ensure that our A&E departments are there for those who need urgent and emergency care the most.”
