Over 3,300 people were in attendance, all Year 11 students and staff from multiple schools across the Midlands and Staffordshire.

The Wolgarston students were able to see poets perform a selection of their work on stage such as Carol Ann Duffy, Dalgit Nagra, Imtiaz Dharker, Owen Sheers and Simon Armitage. These poets and others who also performed at the event are currently being studied nationally by Year 11 students, during English Literature lessons as part of their GCSE course.

'”We had a terrific time at the Poetry Live! event in Nottingham, where 40 Year 11 students had the great opportunity to get advice from an AQA examiner about the best approach to exam skills, as well as put a face to the name of many of the prolific poets that we study to read out their poems. Behaviour of our students were superb and were a real credit to Wolgarston,” said Mr Morris (Second in English).

“Poetry Live! was a thoroughly informative and entertaining event. The presentations from poets and examiners provided useful insight, “ said Rosie Sheehy (Year 11 student) “It enhanced our understanding of our studied poems as well as aiding our exam technique. Overall the trip made for a highly rewarding experience, and one enjoyed by all who attended.”

“It was great to see our Year 11s so engaged with the poets' readings and the examiner's helpful tips on how to answer the GCSE questions. Thank you to Mr Morris for all his hard work on organising this very useful visit,” said Miss Turner, Assistant Headteacher - Sixth Form.
