Irish musician and improv comedian Abandoman added to Shrewsbury International Comedy Festival 2025 line-up
Award-winning improv comedian and musician Abandoman is the latest addition to the line-up of the 2025 Shrewsbury International Comedy Festival (SICF) flagship gala show.
The highlight of SICF will take place at Theatre Severn on the evening of Sunday, 13 July. Acts already booked include Scott Bennett (MC) and Lindsey Santoro as well as performances from Mick Miller and Nina Gilligan at St Mary’s Church for the festival’s new opening night on Wednesday, 9 July.
Ireland’s finest hip hop musical comedian Rob Broderick, aka Abandoman uses his trademark blend of audience interaction and razor-sharp improvisation to transform audience likes, loathes and daydreams into hit songs and captivating tales.
Abandoman has previously won Hackney Empire New Act of the Year, Best Comedy Newcomer at the Adelaide Fringe, headlined comedy stages at Glastonbury, Latitude, Reading and Leeds festivals, performed in the house band for Alan Carr's Happy Hour on Channel 4 alongside Craig David, played the part of Dictionary Corner in 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, supported and toured with pop behemoth Ed Sheeran. The Stage magazine described Abandoman as: ‘Killer punch lines. Note-perfect, lyrically mind-blowing hip-hop. Improv genius!’
Beth McGowan, festival director, said: “Abandoman performed at the festival in 2017, so it’s great to have him back. His improvised songs based on ideas suggested by the audience are legendary. I seem to remember him creating a rap about being careful not to swallow the leaves from green tea last time he was with us – it was absolutely hilarious!”
Tickets for the SICF Gala Show on 13 July are £36 and available through the Theatre Severn box office 01743 281281 or online at: theatresevern.co.uk/shows/comedy/shrewsbury-international-comedy-festival-gala/
