£4,500 wellbeing garden opens at Wolverley school
Pupils celebrated the opening of a £4,500 wellbeing garden at a Wyre Forest school with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The unused corner of land at Wolverley Sebright Primary Academy has been transformed into a relaxing play area with a gazebo, picnic benches, spring flowering bulbs and landscaping.
School council representatives and head of school James Price gathered to thank staff and volunteers
Grandparent Julia Bell designed the garden, which was created by parent Clive Heath, and all 240 pupils each planted a bulb during the autumn term.
Teacher Vicki Harrison, who managed the project, said: “The garden is a wonderful place for children who want to enjoy some relaxing time chatting and playing. We’ve already started a colouring club which meets there.”
The garden has been named Heath’s Garden after its creator and pupils raised a glass of fruit juice to celebrate the official opening after Mr Heath cut the ribbon.
Mr Price said: “This area has been transformed into an attractive garden where our children can relax, reflect and connect with nature and we are very grateful for the hard work of those who have brought this project to fruition.”
It was made possible thanks to £3,000 from a Worcestershire County Council Public Health’s Innovation Grant and £1,500 from the Sebright Foundation. The school’s PTA bought a bench and thank you gifts for Mr Heath, Mrs Bell and Mrs Harrison.
