When her brother was diagnosed with dementia at an early age and, being involved with his care Daphne experienced the difficulties, anxiety and loneliness that being a carer for a loved one creates.

When her brother was admitted to St Georges Hospice in Stafford, she became a governor member and also trained as a mental health act manager. During this time, she raised substantial funds which were used to transform the existing unsafe outdoor space into a safe garden area for patients and hospice staff.

The charity M.A.S.E was set up initially at Houghton Village Hall in Stafford and has progressed to venues in Cannock and Rugeley. The group provides musical entertainment evenings and help and support with much needed advice on available services and resources to support family and friends who find themselves caring for a loved one suffering from dementia. The charity is staffed by volunteers using their own experiences to bring knowledge and understanding to people in need of support. We were all moved by Daphnes' inspiring talk and the vote of thanks was given by Margaret Devey.

Following refreshments we held our usual January mini auction. This fun filled event raises funds for our group however, this year the raised funds totalling £165 will be donated to St Giles Hospice in Lichfield to help with their funding appeal.

The Christmas meal at Marsh Farm was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended.

Next months meeting is members' night and promises to be an enjoyable evening. Rachel, who holds a weekly Fitsteps class at the village hall will be teaching us some line dancing and volunteer members will bring along a plate to share for refreshments.

We meet every second Wednesday at the village hall. If you would like to join our group, come along for a taster session. We enjoy various social activities, such as a walking group (weather permitting!), games afternoons, and also a lunch club. All are welcome to join in.
