The company, which is Britain’s biggest housebuilder, is building new homes at Habberley Park off Habberley Road in the town under its Bovis Homes brand. It gave the school – which is in Chestnut Grove, less than a mile from the development – £500 to spend on supplies and equipment.

The school decided to spend the money on a playground book cupboard where pupils will be able to find something to read whenever they are out at break time or during outdoor learning time. The ‘book nook’ has been filled with plenty of books for them to choose from, thanks to donations from the school community.

Assistant headteacher at the school Katie Sinclair said: “We are thrilled to have received the kind donation from Vistry to create a ‘book nook’ in our school playground.

“During outdoor class ‘book babble’ reading sessions and playtimes, children will be able to discover a new world of brilliant books that have been donated by our Franche school community.

“Without the generosity of companies such as Vistry supporting our school, we would not be able to extend the time children have to read for pleasure and find a new friend on every shelf.”

Sales and marketing director for Vistry North Central Midlands, Carina Wilde, said: “Connecting with the local community is such an important part of our work creating new homes and new neighbourhoods. So, we were keen to provide a donation for Franche Community Primary School which is close to the new homes we’re building at Habberley Park.

“And the school has used our donation in such an imaginative way, by creating a wonderful opportunity for the children to enjoy reading whenever they are out in the playground. It’s a great way of encouraging the youngsters to read at any time and just for fun.

“And thanks to the generosity of the school community there are plenty of great books inside the book nook for the pupils to choose from. We hope they will enjoy it for many years to come.”

Vistry is building two, three, and four-bedroom homes at Habberley Park. To find out more visit bovishomes.co.uk.
