Wolves Foundation's annual shoebox appeal the best ever
Hundreds of children across Wolverhampton will be receiving extra presents this Christmas thanks to the generosity of the local community as part of the Shoebox Appeal co-ordinated by Wolves Foundation.
With thanks to various supporters, Foundation pack patrons and other local businesses, a total of 472 shoeboxes containing gifts have been presented to charities and community groups, which were then passed on to children of different ages who might otherwise not be receiving much this Christmas.
Distribution day was this Monday, with Foundation stuff out on the road to spread some festive cheer with thanks to the club’s supporters.
“This was the fourth time we have delivered our Shoebox Appeal at Christmas, and proved the most successful yet with the number of presents we received to distribute across the local community,” said Ollie Locker, Senior Health Officer with Wolves Foundation.
“The generous support we receive from supporters, both individuals and local groups and businesses, is incredible, and shows the strength of community spirit that exists within the city.
“The appeal continues to grow year after year, and means that children who might be facing challenging circumstances can have a little bit of Christmas cheer with presents to open on Christmas Day.
“On behalf of the Foundation, I would just like to thank everyone who has donated a shoebox, has collected presents or has helped share the appeal, which has resulted in such a fantastic response.”
Shoeboxes were dropped off at Molineux on a midweek evening as well as in the Fan Park prior to the last home game against Ipswich, while businesses such as pack patrons Berriman Eaton, Evans Halshaw, Hariley Solutions and Davroc also both collected and donated presents.
Wolves fan Dominique Hatton also led a donation drive to provide a substantial number of shoeboxes, with further contributions coming from the Dudley Sea Cadets and students from the City of Wolverhampton College.
Within the club, Young Wolves kindly donated some club-related gifts, with more presents provided by individual members of staff and participants attending a Christmas tournament with the Premier League Kicks project.
The presents were then delivered to different charities and community groups to distribute, including the Good Shepherd, Hope Community Project, Women & Families Resource Centre, the Haven, Jericho House and the Family Hub in Graiseley.
Fans can also support the community via the Multibank UK appeal taking place ahead of the Boxing Day match with Manchester United. From 2.30pm, in the Fan Zone, supporters can donate hygiene products such as soap, shampoo, shower gel, deodorant, toothpaste, and toothbrushes, which will be distributed via Foundation projects in the local community.
