A warm welcome was given to Elaine Griffiths on her first visit. The tables looked very festive with Christmas crackers, cards and glasses of wine. We were served a delicious three course meal by the staff, with turkey and all the trimmings, followed with coffee, mints and mince pies.

Before the meal started the management and staff were invited to join members in order to thank them for serving their excellent food so efficiently throughout 2024.

Then followed entertainment by Dr Richard Churchley who explained how many of our well known carols originated as far back as Henry VIII. He played his accordion and members joined in the singing of Deck the Halls, the Holly and the Ivy, Jingle Bells finishing with Rudolph the Re-nosed Reindeer, originally a poem sung by the famous cowboy Gene Autrey. The most well known of all times is, of course, White Christmas featured in the film Holiday Inn with Bing Crosby. He ended his presentation inviting everyone to sing We Wish You A Merry Christmas.

The next luncheon will be on Friday, 10 January when the speaker will be M P Mike Wood, and in February following the AGM Keith Edwards on Underground Delights. Meetings are held on the second Friday each month at The Lodge 12 noon for 12.30pm finishing at approximately 3pm.  Visitors are most welcome and can attend three times before deciding to join.
