Now in its third year, thanks to funding from West Midlands Combined Authority’s Commonwealth Games Legacy Fund, the event will take place alongside the picturesque Dudley Canal near the top of the historic “nine locks” on Saturday, 21 December at 4.30pm. This free community event offers festive fun for all ages in the heart of the Black Country.

A Canal & River Trust team, both employees and volunteers, have created new giant-sized themed decorations each year to make the event memorable.

Gemma Coley, Volunteering Leader, said: “We’re really looking forward to our third Christmas event at Delph Stables. It's amazing how this event has grown year-on-year, and how the numbers of local residents vising this special place keeps increasing. We hope many more people discover Delph Stables this year, and enjoy the festivities.”

Delph Stables, the last surviving canalside stable block in the Black Country, provides a charming backdrop for this seasonal celebration. Visitors can enjoy:

  • Creative Activities - Get hands-on with ambitious Christmas decoration crafting.
  • Meet Father Christmas - A magical opportunity for children to meet Santa himself.
  • Carol Singing and More - Join in the holiday spirit with Brierley Hill Musical Theatre Company performing Christmas songs beside the canal from 5pm and Albion Street Church singing Christmas Carols.
  • Complimentary Refreshments - Warm up with a free cup of tea or coffee while soaking in the festive atmosphere.

This is a fantastic chance to celebrate the holiday season while enjoying the unique heritage of the canal and stables. Whether you’re making decorations, sipping a warm drink, or belting out your favourite carols, there’s something for everyone at this much-loved community event.

The event will be held at Delph Stables, Brierley Hill (access via steps from Mill Street or sloped paths along the canal). While there’s no parking onsite, ample parking is available nearby.
