Building futures! Lichfield housebuilder inspires students with career assembly
A Lichfield housebuilder inspired the next generation to dream big in the world of construction, as part of a unique school assembly.
Redrow Midlands, which is currently building at Curborough Lakes, on Watery Lane, arranged for team members Paul Borrowdale and Macey Finlay to share their career knowledge in front of an assembly of pupils at The Friary School.
As part of the school’s Raising Aspirations programme, Paul and Macey informed Sixth Form students about the ongoing work at the new development in Lichfield, and the career opportunities the housebuilder offers for local young people.
Faye Bullock, Careers and Aspirations Mentor at The Friary School, said: “We were delighted to welcome Paul and Macey for a very engaging assembly, and would like to thank them very much for coming along.
“They talked to our Sixth Form students about all the different career options on offer under Redrow’s business umbrella within the housebuilding and construction industry, including commercial, design, IT, finance, planning and development, engineering, quantity surveying, customer service and construction roles. Students were all leaving saying how good the assembly was, and they felt much more clued up with regards to careers in this sector and future opportunities.
“We hope to take students lower down the school for a site tour at Curborough Lakes in the near future to show them first-hand some of the interesting opportunities that may be available to them.”
Redrow Midlands offers a range of development programmes for young people, including apprenticeships and traineeship programmes - supported with ongoing training and professional development.
Elaine Cartwright, Sales Director for Redrow Midlands, said: “Each year, as part of our continued commitment to valuing people, we provide opportunities for young people in the area to kickstart a career in housebuilding.
“Apprenticeships and work experience allow motivated students to learn on the job, gain practical knowledge, and also continue their education. After finishing programmes with us, a substantial number of young people stay with Redrow and advance to become specialists in their field.
“We look forward to strengthening our relationship with The Friary School over the coming years and welcoming the next generation of talent into our workforce.”
