Budding Lichfield filmmaker launches ambitious Spider-Man project with appeal for help to make it a reality
Second-year university student Alfie Johnson is continuing his dream to follow in the footsteps of legendary Hollywood greats Steven Spielberg and Quentin Tarantino by launching his “biggest-ever project” to date.
Alfie is planning to release an original Spider-Man fan film next summer, but he needs the help of the generous Midland community to bring it to fruition.
The filmmaker’s journey took a significant leap forward in August following the release of his first mini-series Omnipotent, a science fiction, superhuman story, which won praise for its originality and thought-provoking narrative.
Childhood inspiration spurred student’s first film narrative Now the Nottingham Trent University degree student is taking another major leap by producing his first-ever film that ventures into the world of Spider-Man.
“For as long as I can remember, Spider-Man has been a source of inspiration,” said Alfie, who has made short films as a hobby since he was in high school.
“This project is a tribute to Spider-Man and blends my favourite aspects from games, comics, and animated Spider-Man series, while offering a fresh take at the same time.
“I will combine what resources I have got available mixed with what I can get from the GoFundMe campaign to provide a new unique take on Spider-Man that people haven't seen before on the silver screen.”
Alfie assembles talented team to collaborate with if his fundraiser is a success Alfie has collated a team of talented creators, from VFX artists, prop/costume designers, and Royal University of London music production pupil to compose an orchestral score, to bring his project to life.
To cover the costs of materials and collaborator expenses, the student has set up a GoFundMe Campaign and is calling for the help of Midland businesses as well as individuals to support his unique endeavour.
“I’m so excited at the prospect of working with such a talented team to make this film the best that it can be. Yes, this is my most ambitious project to date, but with community support, I can create something truly special,” Alfie added.
If the fundraising campaign is a success the film, which will adhere to copyright laws, will be released on a free-to-view basis on his YouTube channel, Alfonzo’s Pictures, next summer as his end-of-year degree production.
It will follow a 22-year-old Peter Parker as he struggles to balance everyday life challenges with Spider-Man responsibilities just as Oscorp’s electrical engineer Max Dillon undergoes a life-altering transformation, which sets the stage for a clash that will test Peter’s dual life.
