Ladies group take a trip back to the 1950s

Chase Terrace Ladies Group were introduced to Joanne Massey and her husband Kevin. The group have heard Joanne talk on her time as a maid at Shugborough, but today’s talk was on their home and how much they love everything from the 1950s.

They are also both into 50s music and Joanne has a number of posters around the house of Doris Day her favourite singer and actress. They get some of their inspiration from old TV programmes.

Joanne showed us pictures of her home which is very bright and colourful, typical of a 50s home. She said that she hates dull colours. They still use sheets, blankets, and candlewick bedspreads.

They are now living in an old gatehouse which her husband, Kevin, has worked very hard to make into a 50s style home having done most of the alterations.

Joanne herself had to learn a lot about gardening. They have an English Rose kitchen which was very popular, and their plates, cups and glasses are all 50s style. They even have 50s style light switches and have replaced all the modern radiators with old style ones.

Everyone really enjoyed Joanne’s talk and hopefully will be booking her again for her talk about 50s fashion and her wide selection of clothes from that era.

The ladies were advised that the first meeting in the new year would take place on Thursday, 9 January between 2pm and 4pm rather than in the evening. The Christmas meal would be taking place on 12 December at The Rag. Arrival by 12.45pm for our 1pm booking. A secret Santa would be held for those who would like to take part.

The group have also sent a donation of £63 to St Giles Hospice.
