Students can now download the free Student ID and present this as proof of student status when travelling on National Express buses in the West Midlands and Coventry. The introduction of the new Student IDs allows revenue inspectors to quickly confirm student discount tickets and helps improve the customer experience when travelling.

With a verified Student ID, students can quickly and easily prove they are a student, without having to show a physical student card. They display only the key information, such as their photo, university email, and verified student status, directly to businesses. This approach enhances students' privacy and security while providing businesses with reliable confirmation of student status.

Adam Rideout, Head of Customer Experience at National Express West Midlands, said: “As a leading public transport operator, we are continually seeking solutions to enhance our service quality and passenger experience. The new Student ID feature from Yoti will make it even easier for customers to provide proof of student status when travelling on our services and benefit from cheaper travel.”

Young people can now prove their age, identity and student status, all from one secure Digital ID. We’re delighted National Express West Midlands is the first to accept Student IDs, helping students prove their status and access discounted travel tickets more easily.”

Using the new Student ID is simple:

Download the free Yoti ID, Post Office EasyID or Lloyds Bank Smart ID app from the app store. Create an account, add an academic student email address and take a photo. Present the Student ID to the driver to receive the discounted fare.
