Magical visit to Winter Wonderland for children from Acorns
Snow, sledges and Santa brought the magic of Christmas to more than 50 families when they were invited to visit the Winter Wonderland at Tamworth’s SnowDome.
More than 250 children and family members, who receive vital care and support from Acorns Children’s Hospice, went along to the festive extravaganza as part of an exclusive visit to meet Santa at the event’s official opening on Saturday.
Santa’s Winter Wonderland offers a tinsel-topped experience where children can play in real falling snow, take sledge rides, visit a Christmas village, see cute animals, enjoy festive family games and watch Santa in a mini-pantomime show.
Julie Hickman, Family Practitioner at Acorns, said: “It was a fabulous event and it was so joyful to see all the families making magical memories that will last forever.
“We’re so grateful to the SnowDome for helping us give families a special day out. The look on one child’s face as he tried to reach and touch the snow as it fell on his face was priceless.
“Help can’t wait when a child’s life is short, and supporters like the SnowDome are vital for local families by helping them make every moment count.”
Isabelle Chadbourne, Director at SnowDome, said: “We were so excited to be hosting Acorns families again this year at Santa’s Winter Wonderland. The team here at the SnowDome really look forward to seeing all the families and helping to spread some Christmas cheer.”
“Santa is here from now until 5 January - it really is the perfect family Christmas adventure.”
Every family deserves the chance to create unforgettable memories with their child, no matter how short their time together.
Acorns Children’s Hospice provides specialist palliative care for babies, children and young people with life limiting and life threatening conditions, and support that allows their families to make the most of each precious moment.
In the past year, the charity has cared for more than 780 children across the West Midlands, and supported over 1,000 families, including those who are bereaved.
This vital gift of care and support is provided from Acorns three hospices, based in Birmingham, Walsall and Worcester, and in the community.
Acorns needs around £35,000 each day to provide its children’s hospice care, with two thirds of that amount coming from generous donations and fundraising by the local community.
