Recycle your old Christmas tree and help support Stafford hospice
Katharine House Hospice is encouraging residents to register their Christmas trees for collection in exchange for donations.
Trees will be collected from homes, schools, churches and businesses, then taken to Mill Farm Recycling, near Eccleshall, where they will be shredded and turned into quality peat-free compost.
All donations collected in return for the recycling service will help to fund the vital care and support Katharine House Hospice provides to those living with incurable illnesses.
The recycling service is provided in partnership with UK charity, Just Helping, supported by waste management services specialist, Veolia and sponsored by Stan Robinson Ltd.
People can donate and register their trees at just-helping.org.uk/register-tree before midnight on Sunday, 5 January 2025. Trees will then be collected the following week for recycling.
The Christmas tree collection scheme has been running for eight years with over 4,000 trees recycled and almost £52,000 raised in donations.
Lyndsey Howard, Community and Events Fundraiser, said: “Katharine House Hospice is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, so we want to make this our best year yet, collecting even more trees and raising more funds through donations.
“For 35 years, our charity has been supported by businesses such as Stan Robinson Ltd and Veolia, other charities like Just Helping, and valuable individuals who make donations, volunteer, or take part in our events. It is an amazing level of support that makes it possible for us to provide our free expert care to more families who need us.
“It is also great to see the trees being turned into something new instead of ending up in landfill, which is costly to both the environment and the UK taxpayer.”
Collections must be booked online and will be made from the following postcodes:
ST14, ST15, ST16, ST17, ST18, ST19, ST20, ST21, WS11, WS12 and WS15.
Only real trees can be collected, pots and decorations must be removed.
Katharine House Hospice provides free expert and compassionate care to families living with incurable illnesses throughout Stafford and the surrounding areas. As a charity, it relies upon the kindness of the local community to help generate three-quarters of the funds needed to run its vital range of services.
