The site – delivered by Persimmon West Midlands – will bring a range of new homes to the area, supporting the local need for quality new housing. The development will be made up of one to five bedroom properties. Of these homes, 35 per cent will be transferred to a housing association partner for rent and shared ownership. A portion of the land will be kept as public open space, with enhancements including sports pitches, allotments and play areas for residents.

Along with the boost to local housing needs, the scheme will bring with it a range of community benefits. As part of the wider development at Cricket Lane, over £8.7m will be paid to support infrastructure delivery and ensure economic development. Over £6m of this will be pledged to local education, with significant funds also given towards public transport and healthcare. Alongside these commitments, Persimmon will deliver a scheme of highway improvement works at the Swinfen junction of the A38, A5148 and London Road.

With a view to deliver more sustainable developments, all homes on this community will be fitted with air source heat pumps and offer the highest standard of insultation – with properties being around 30 per cent more energy efficient than existing housing stock.

Daniel Hassall, Managing Director at Persimmon Homes West Midlands said: “We’re proud to have secured approval to deliver this new community at Cricket Lane, which will bring a wide range of benefits to the area.

“Through our commitment to deliver all homes as zero-carbon ready through the Future Homes Standard, we’re ensuring that our customers have peace of mind knowing they live in energy efficient and sustainable properties.

“This development will not only generate job opportunities throughout the lifespan of the project but will leave a legacy of community benefits for the people of the city and its surrounding areas. We’ll continue to work closely with Lichfield District Council throughout the build process to deliver on our commitments.”
