Walking Ludlow’s town walls by lantern-light

The Ludlow Town Walls Trust is holding the first, of what will be many, events to raise money for the repairs to the collapsed section of the wall as well as to raise the profile of what the trust is planning to do and how.

On the evening of Friday, 15 November there will be a walking tour of the town walls with talks along the route at specific points from characters from Ludlow’s history.

The walk will start and finish at the Garden of Rest, next to St Laurence’s Church, with a gazebo set up in the grounds where snacks and mulled wine will be available – and where hand-held lanterns will be given out to the walk participants.

Colin Richards, who is Chair of the Trust, will give the first of the talks there, telling the story of the walls from the time they were first constructed to the time when the section of the wall at the Garden of Rest collapsed in 2013.

“This will be a practical way of highlighting the walls and their importance to Ludlow both historically and into the future. As well as introducing the newly re-formed Town Walls Trust it will also be the Trust’s first fundraising activity. We see this as the launch event for the walks project – significant and exciting!”

Refreshments will be available from 6pm and the walk will start at 6.30 pm, following Colin’s introductory talk at 6.15pm.

Anyone wishing to extend the evening and the camaraderie of this first important event can join Colin and friends at the Bull Hotel.

The Lantern Town Walls Tour will cost £5 per person but booking is essential as numbers will be limited.
