Top 3 'ghost goals' inspired by Wrexham's against Kidderminster

It's annoying enough to concede a goal - but what about those that never should have stood? What about 'ghost goals'?

Wrexham scored a 'ghost goal' but video replays show the ball going inside the post and through a gap in the net.

Referee Amy Fearn took the advice from her assistants and awarded the goal which she originally disallowed.

So, this got us thinking. How often do 'ghost-goals' occur and how bizarre can they be?

We've picked a few out that define 'ghost-goal', how these were ever given is still a mystery.

1. Watford 2-2 Reading (2008/09) - Remember this? Reading's Noel Hunt is clearly trying to keep this ball in play, not trying to prevent a teammate from scoring. However, after his brother Stephen Hunt whipped in a corner, Noel ended up opening the scoring. Judge for yourselves.

2. A unique goal that should never have been - the commentators description of Stefan Kiessling's goal for Bayer Leverkusen against Hoffenheim. The German striker head's this corner for the near post but narrowly misses yet finds its way into the back of the net via a gap in the side netting. Another bizarre phantom goal.

3. What's the Mata? It's a goal - well it wasn't. Chelsea's Juan Mata 'scored' his sides' second of the game in their FA Cup final against Tottenham. Only, it never crossed the line. Another one for the Phantom Goal scrapbook.
