Asda delivery van captured on camera smashing into parked car before driving off - WATCH
A man has been left fuming after his car was damaged when an Asda delivery driver drove into it – then, he claims, it took the company nearly a month to sort the matter out.
Ian Peacock was at his uncle's house on Lion Farm Estate in Oldbury when he heard his car alarm going off.
CCTV of the incident shows an Asda van passing Mr Peacock's Renault Megane, then moments later heading back in the opposite direction.
The CCTV appears to show the van struggling to squeeze past the car and ends up hitting it, causing it to bump forward, before driving off.
Mr Peacock, 33, ran outside to his Megane after hearing a bang and his security alarm go off.
He found his car had been hit and managed to catch a glimpse of the delivery van driving away.
Mr Peacock, from Oldbury, immediately visited the retail giant's store in Great Bridge with his cousin Luke Martin demanding an explanation after the incident on December 20.
However, he claimed 'no one was willing to sort the situation' and he said it was some time before he heard back from Asda head office.
Asda bosses told the Express & Star the incident was 'unacceptable' and apologised to Mr Peacock for any inconvenience and upset caused.
Mr Martin said: "We spoke to the general manager and he told us we couldn't speak to the delivery manager as he wasn't in but we found him working half an hour later.
"The delivery manager apologised to us and said that the driver should have stopped but he didn't and were told to call head office and go back and speak to the general manager of the Great Bridge store but no one was willing to sort the situation."
Mr Peacock said: "I tried to call the Asda head office various times.
"We even went to the Asda store in Great Bridge where the van was from and tried to speak with someone there.
"I contacted my insurance company who supplied me with a courtesy car whilst mine got fixed as I thought I was fighting a losing battle as no one from the head office would help me sort the issue.
"I told the company that I'd accept the incident if it was an accident but on the CCTV it looks like the driver deliberately hits my car."
Mr Peacock said he was promised he would hear back from the head office at the supermarket chain various times but claims he never received a call.
He added: "It's caused me a lot of stress as it was over Christmas when I was trying to deal with it all and I wasn't getting anywhere with head office.
"I finally got a call last week and they told me they'd finally begun to sort it and sent me a goodwill gesture.
"I'm not bothered about the gift as it'll probably be a small gift voucher.
"I just wanted them to listen to me and sort the issue out as I feel they really didn't want to co-operate and help the situation at all."
Almost a month later, Mr Peacock is now going through the process of sorting his insurance issues.
He added: "Mr Peacock added: "I just wanted it all to be sorted straight away.
"It's been a hectic few weeks and my car has only recently been repaired so I'm finally putting things back to normal.
"I just wish Asda could've sorted it out faster as it was quite an urgent situation."
An Asda spokesman said: "We have a dedicated team of drivers who safely deliver our customers' shopping every day and this incident is unacceptable.
"We're very sorry for any inconvenience and upset caused by this matter and can confirm that the car has since been repaired and returned to Mr Peacock."
