Filmed from the roof of the NatWest Tower, the video pans across the city showing the sun rising over Eastside and setting behind the BT tower and Jewellery Quarter.

The footage was shot from the roof of the 22-storey tower before demolition work began in January.

After standing for more than 40 years, the NatWest Tower is being dismantled piece by piece, with work set to be finished in the autumn.

Development partners Rockspring and Sterling, who commissioned the video, intend to build a 26-storey £60 million office building in its place.

Eric Linden, European director at Rockspring, said: "The NatWest Tower was the tallest building in Birmingham's central business district and we wanted to capture the views before we began work dismantling it.

""Our proposed replacement, 103 Colmore Row, will be even taller at 26 storeys, with the apex 246 metres above sea level."

The movie has been released to mark the start of MIPIM, the international real estate conference being held in the French Riviera this week.

James Howarth, managing director of Sterling, is travelling to Cannes for the global property expo.

He said: "The film clearly shows what a dynamic city Birmingham is, with traffic movements even in the small hours. We are delighted to premiere it during MIPIM."

Also at MIPIM is a delegation from the West Midlands, who are showcasing several ambitious plans including the Black Country Garden City and Birmingham's Smithfield Masterplan.
