The event, which is in its 20th year, will play host to the cream of the crop in the music world in the grounds of the Staffordshire beauty spot.

More than 1,000 construction staff have been hard at work for the past three weeks preparing the site.

While those who have paid to attend the festival have been busy buying their new wellies, food, summer clothes and tents ready to party, workers have been assembling stages, bars, toilets and everything else needed to ensure the event is a success.

Dawn Woodhouse, V Festival spokeswoman, said: "Preparations for the big weekend have been under way for a few weeks now, with dedicated production teams overseeing the installation of everything from fences and toilets to bars, stages and partners attractions, all essential to ensure festival-goers have a fun, but safe weekend at the 20th anniversary V Festival.

"We can't wait to open the gates and welcome everybody on site, everything is looking fantastic and we are actually ahead of schedule."

Global platinum-selling artist Calvin Harris and rockers Kasabian are top of the bill this year.

The line-up also includes four-time Grammy and Brit award-winner Sam Smith, Ellie Goulding, The Script, Hozier, George Ezra, Olly Murs, James Bay, Stereophonics, Clean Bandit and Sir Tom Jones.

They will line up with a host of other star names across the festival's four stages.

The Glee Club Comedy Tent is also returning for its fifth year with acts including Russell Kane, Frankie Boyle, Seann Walsh and Matt Richardson.

The festival first opened its gates at Weston Park in 1999, after moving from earlier venues in Warrington and Leeds and has returned every year since.

Previous headliners have included Blur, Pulp, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Stone Roses and Oasis.
