Haden Hill House, in Cradley Heath, was awash with nostalgia and bathed in sunshine on Bank Holiday Monday for the celebration.

Historic cars were parked on the parkland surrounding the house and guests got in on the fun by dressing in period outfits and uniforms.

Union flags were also out in force as hundreds of people arrived to visit the museum, based in Haden Hill Park, off Barrs Road.

Sandwell's visitor services officer, Alison Hyatt, said live music makes the event go with a swing as the country builds up to marking the anniversary this coming Friday.

Alison was joined Ray Phillips, of Solihull, playing a 1940s spiv, and Neil Trinder, dressed as a Royal Marines captain, and his wife Penny, both of Halesowen, with their 1937 Hillman Minx.
