Video: Dudley Mayor goes bananas

A mayor went bananas for Fairtrade when he visited a supermarket to find out more about the campaign.

In the UK, people eat more than five billion bananas a year or 13 million each day. Over the past 10 years, the typical price of a banana in the UK has nearly halved, whilst the cost of production has doubled with banana farmers picking up the shortfall.

Sainsbury's Amblecote has been working closely with the Stourbridge Fairtrade group to support its bid to make Stourbridge a Fairtrade town. The group achieved its aim in 2010 and resubmitted its application in January this year.
