The 21-year-old from St Philip's Avenue, Penn, was jumping for joy on stage with three other members of the cast during final rehearsals for Footloose at the city's Grand Theatre.

Alec, who plays Willard, said after rising to the challenge with fellow performers David Walters, Aaron Perry and Alquin Magpantay: "It is the perfect part because it lets me play the fool. Willard is supposed to be the one who cannot dance and so I have lots of fun getting the steps wrong."

David Walters, a 24-year-old trainee legal executive from Tebworth Close, Pendeford, who takes the role of Ren made famous by Kevin Bacon in the film, has played the lead in several other productions. He said: "This company is extremely good at nurturing young talent."

Footloose runs at The Grand from March 12 -16. For tickets, call 01902 429212.
