Garden is a haven for Netherton couple

Plenty of sun and showers have been a welcome boost to British gardeners, with flower beds full of colourful blooms and trees laden with fruit.

And one green-fingered resident who has made the most of the warm weather is 74-year-old Don Hall, who treats his garden as a haven since being diagnosed with throat cancer.

Mr Hall credits working in his garden for putting him back on the road to recovery, and he spends as much time as he can tending his flowers. His garden in Netherton is full to the brim with everything from marigolds to geraniums.

Despite everything Mother Nature has thrown at it, he says his garden is 'better than ever' this year.

Mr Hall, who used to work at BRD in Aldridge and previously lived in Pelsall, Walsall, said: "It's been absolutely perfect growing weather.

"Our garden is absolutely beautiful this year."

The former car components inspector, who lives with wife and retired florist Barbara, 72, said his garden had been a haven since his cancer diagnosis eight years ago.
