Thousands turned out to see dragon boats take to Chasewater for a fundraising racing extravaganza.

And there was a home win in the dragon boat event which was held in aid of several charities.

The Rotary Club of Cannock organised yesterday's race at Chasewater Country Park, and the club's team The President's Men won in the final

Teams competed over a 250-metre course on the lake. There were heats featuring three boats and a four-boat final.

President David Marklew said 16 teams took part, with the Ocean 16-And-A-Half team paddling to second place and last year's winners Team Spirit from Pye Green Road finishing third.

"We reckon about 2,500 people came along to watch on the day. The weather was superb and that helped boost the turnout. We think we have raised in the region of £10,000," said Mr Marklew.

"We have had tremendous support from the local community," he added.

Proceeds from the day will go to the British Heart Foundation, the Young Carers' Association, and other local charities.

There was also a fun fair, jetski boat rides, charity stalls and live music from local band Bloke at the event.
