When florist Gillian Deakin agreed to look after a friend's drum kit, the Lichfield mother had no idea she would stumble upon a musical talent of her own.

After only a few months of practice, Mrs Deakin is already studying at Grade 3 level, and has splashed out on her very own drum kit.

"Around last October I agreed to store these drums for five or six months, and the idea was that my daughter Jennifer would take it up," said Mrs Deakin, of Boley Park, who is also mum to 11-year-old Rachel.

"After a bit I decided I would give it a go too, I thought it was something nice we could do together." Since then nine-year-old Jennifer's interest in drumming has waned, but her mum is now taking private lessons.

Now Mrs Deakin is planning to take part in a world record attempt at Birmingham's NIA next month to help raise money for charity.

On July 13 a total of 600 drummers will be playing the same beat under the same roof in aid of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
