Aston Villa sign Tottenham's Josh Onomah on season-long loan
Aston Villa have signed highly-rated Tottenham midfielder Josh Onomah on loan following the injury to Jack Grealish.
The 20-year-old box-to-box midfielder, who won the World Cup with England’s Under-20s this summer, has joined today on a season-long loan.
Steve Bruce reportedly beat several clubs to the loan signing, including Norwich and Midlands rivals Wolves.
“I can’t wait to get started," said Onomah. “This is a huge football club and I want to really make my mark here and prove to be a player the manager can rely on.
“I know that promotion is the aim and I am here to help us achieve that.”
Onomah still has three years left on his Spurs contract, and is part of Mauricio Pochettino’s long-term plans for the club.
But the Argentinian has decided to let him leave on loan to give him more first-team experience.
Grealish could be out until the New Year with a freak kidney injury he picked up in pre-season, Bruce revealed earlier this week.
And the Villa boss has moved quickly to find another young English midfielder to replace his number 10.
Villa are also closing in on a temporary deal for 20-year-old Liverpool winger Ryan Kent, who has previously had loan spells at Coventry City and Barnsley.
Leeds and Middlesbrough were also interested in Kent, who played 44 times for Barnsley in the Championship last season, but Bruce looks to have beaten them to his signature.
