The 20-year-old is in line to keep goal at Anfield with Carl Ikeme suspended and Andy Lonergan not fully fit after a knee injury. It's a far cry to a year ago when he was on the bench at AFC Telford United – and the latest step on a long journey that took in Bitterley Primary School and Ludlow School.
Will Davies, headteacher at Bitterley, said: "We are very proud he has been through our school."
Burgoyne produced a man-of-the-match display on his Wolves debut – a 4-4 draw with Fulham on December 10 – and also played in the 2-1 loss to Cardiff three days later.
