Wolves back in for Leicester's Chris Wood

Wood is surplus to requirements at Leicester, having fallen down the pecking order, ad boss Kenny Jackett is believed to be reigniting his interest in the New Zealand international.

Wolves chased the former Albion forward last summer and made a £1.25million bid, but the clubs failed to agree a deal.

Wood could be available on loan, with Leicester having big-money signings Leonardo Ulloa and Andrej Kramaric as well as England internationals Jamie Vardy and David Nugent as forward options.

The striker has 12 months left on his current deal and would fit Wolves' bill as a young striker with Championship experience, who is good enough to challenge Benik Afobe and Nouha Dicko for a first-team place.

Wolves also have Inter Milan striker Samuele Longo on their radar and have also looked at Crystal Palace's Dwight Gayle and Cardiff City's Joe Mason.

Wood is still only 23 but has played for eight English clubs, six of them on loan.

Albion snapped him up as an 18-year-old and sent him on loan to Barnsley, Brighton, Bristol City and Millwall.

The latter yielded his most high-profile spell, as Wood scored 11 goals in 18 starts under then-Millwall boss Jackett.

Leicester signed him for £2million and Wood scored 19 goals in two seasons in the Championship.

But Wood was used far more sparingly as Leicester survived in the Premier League last season, making just six appearances in all competitions.

He was dispatched to Mick McCarthy's Ipswich on loan in February but failed to score in eight games.

Meanwhile, Brighton have joined the race to sign Newcastle's Sammy Ameobi, a target for both Wolves and Albion.

Out-of-contract Ameobi is thought to have been offered a deal to stay at St James' Park.
