Kenny Jackett: We got it wrong with Yannick Sagbo

The head coach is keen to prevent the same situation happening again after suggesting Sagbo's return to Hull City less than halfway through his three-month loan was a mutual decision.

The 26-year-old made just one start in four appearances as Jackett recalled youngster Liam McAlinden from Fleetwood ahead of him before Nouha Dicko got injured.

"It's based on assessment of what they've done, an assessment of whether they can play 90, 95 minutes, or whether they can be substitute and work towards it," said Jackett.

"You really do need people that can then make a difference to the team.

"If you're looking for a boost, the signings affecting the first team are very important.

"You always learn lessons but in recruitment you do get some wrong - no club gets it 100 per cent right.

"What's important is you don't let things fester and you move on."

Jackett suggested it was a mutual decision to end Sagbo's loan.

"We've been in touch since the start of the loan and that was the conclusion it was working towards from both clubs," he said.

"I couldn't give him the games he needed to get 100 per cent fit."

Jackett denied it was a case of 'one in, one out' as he moved towards the closure of the loan window on November 27.

"I don't think we're suddenly going to sign someone," he said.

"We don't play for 10 days and we'll focus on certainly making sure we've got a good enough squad for when the loan window closes.

"If you bring the wrong person in you have to move them out again pretty quick.

"The lists (of our targets) are always there and you need a consistent trickle of new faces.

"Is there one coming in right now? I wouldn't say there necessarily is.

"But is it the right time now? We'll see.

"I don't see a lack of attitude or application in the players and I see a hunger and a desire to try to put things right.

"We're working towards two deadlines and they're crucial times.

"We need as strong a squad as possible."
