Kenny Jackett only wants value for Wolves
Boss Kenny Jackett today insisted Wolves' transfer policy is right as he hinted they will continue to chase value-for-money signings such as Nouha Dicko.
Wolves failed to add a striker to their three summer captures as the transfer window slammed shut on Monday night, much to the frustration of supporters.
Andy Delort went to Wigan for more wages to add to the list of strikers Wolves have failed to land which includes Callum Wilson, Chris Wood, Patrick Bamford and Max Clayton.
But Jackett defended the club, saying: "I don't think you can look outside your own club too much - if you just look elsewhere, that's pretty poor.
"You've got to run a club how you want to run it - work out your financial parameters and stick to that."
Jackett wants to strengthen with additions in the same mould as Dicko, who cost £300,000 from Wigan and has scored 15 goals in 25 games so far for Wolves.
"We paid £300,000 for Dicko and he's given us very good value for money, and at 22 too," said the boss.
"We bought every single player last year with a view to them delivering in the Championship. I didn't think there was one player brought in who couldn't do us a job up a level.
"That was quite often the reason for the investment."
Wolves have been forced to decide whether to join an inflated market or miss out.
"The prices have gone up and up; Leonardo Ulloa went from Brighton to Leicester for £7m," said Jackett.
"Ross McCormack went to Fulham for £11m, Sean Morrison went for around £3m to £4m to Cardiff and Adam Forshaw went to Wigan for what was quoted £3.7m.
"They're all players we know very well and for those with the increased parachute money, they're trying to get up at the first attempt. If you make it, it's worth it."
Wolves' payments to agents of £500,000 last season put them just outside the top 10 in the Championship, despite being in League One.
Jackett explained: "People came in on the wages but there generally is a transfer fee, particularly for younger ones."
And he is delighted with Dicko, adding: "He did ever so well last Saturday - it was terrific for a man of his size to produce that header. He's got bit of everything."
