Jimmy Walker today revealed he has shelved any retirement plans and admitted keeping Walsall up would be one of the biggest achievements of his career.

The goalkeeper, who returned in last night's 1-1 draw at Notts County, penned a deal until the end of the season last week to stay and fight against relegation from League One.

The Saddlers are joint-bottom, seven points from safety, with Dagenham and Redbridge but are now unbeaten in three games.

And Walker admitted he has put a decision on whether to quit at the end of the season on ice to aid Walsall's survival battle.

"I've put it on hold, I'm enjoying it and as long as that continues and I can help the team I'll play," said the 37-year-old, who returned in October.

"I've thought about it but I'm enjoying playing at the moment. I feel quite fit and I can hopefully play the rest of the season, help the team and make a decision then.

"I've always enjoyed playing and I don't think there's any point in playing whatsoever if you're not enjoying it. It's great. I'm not getting any younger and will enjoy it while I can."

Walker has made 487 appearances for the Saddlers in his two spells and won promotion three times. He also helped West Ham to the Premier League via the play-offs in 2005 but said if Walsall beat the drop it would equal them.

"It would be a massive achievement," he said. "I left when we got relegated (in 2004) and that was the biggest disappointment of my career.

"But staying up now will be one of the biggest achievements if we can do it.

"It would be magic. I don't know how long I've got left and if it was to end at the end of the season it would be the icing on the cake.

"What we all want to do is stay in this division."

Walker kept the Saddlers in it with a fine late save from Lee Hughes before Alex Nicholls' leveller and felt the Saddlers earned the draw.

He said: "It was a good point, we weren't at our best but we deserved something. We look quite solid at the minute which is massive and we'll happily take the point."
