Former Walsall star Clayton Ince has come out of retirement to play for Trinidad outfit Ma Pau Sports Club.

The 38-year-old quit football last May and returned to Trinidad to focus on his sports academy.

But after coaching with Ma Pau since his homecoming he has signed a professional deal and is relishing the chance of playing again.

"I've been doing a bit of coaching back home and have enjoyed it," he said. "I'm good friends with the Ma Pau coach and he just asked me if I wanted to help out.

"When you're out there training you get the bug back, so when they asked me to sign I was delighted. It's a professional league and Ma Pau are doing well in fourth place.

"It's nice to be playing in January with the temperature still warm! I don't miss the English winters, that's for sure."

Ince made 169 appearances for the Saddlers after signing from Coventry in 2006 and kept a club record 22 clean sheets as they romped to the League Two title in 2006-07.

He won the Saddlers' Player of the Season and Players' Player of the Season in 2008-09 before losing his place to Rene Gilmartin at the end of last term.

But Ince insisted he keeps tabs on his former club and hopes they survive.

"Of course I still look for Walsall's results," he said. "I know it's been a tough season so far but I hope the guys can turn it around.

"It's a good club with good people and terrific fans."
