Northamptonshire’s Richard Levi has been taken to hospital after being hit on the head while batting.

Levi suffered the blow to his helmet as he faced a delivery from Josh Tongue in Northants’ County Championship Division Two clash with Worcestershire at Wantage Road.

Worcestershire’s Twitter feed said shortly after the 29-year-old South African had been taken to hospital in an ambulance.

An early lunch was called, with Northants saying little more than Levi had retired hurt on 28.

They later released a statement which said he had gone to hospital as a “precaution”.

In an update provided after their eight-wicket defeat by the Pears, Northants said: “Following some precautionary tests at Northampton General Hospital Richard has been diagnosed with mild concussion and is resting at home.

“Northamptonshire County Cricket Club would like to thank all fans for their kind words of support.”
