Antonio Conte’s side have a golden opportunity to set a new mark on Sunday.

Monday’s win over Watford saw Chelsea match their own Premier League record of 29 wins in a season.

With one game remaining, at home to Sunderland on Sunday, Antonio Conte’s side have a golden opportunity to set a new mark.

Here, Press Association Sport compares this season to the previous campaigns in which Jose Mourinho’s sides established the record – which even encompasses the Premier League’s early 42-game seasons.

W 29 D 8 L 1, 95 pts, goal difference +57

Mourinho’s remarkable first season in England saw Chelsea sweep all before them, winning the Premier League with a record points total and conceding only 15 goals. Their only loss came as Nicolas Anelka’s penalty earned Manchester City a 1-0 success but they were top from their 12th match onwards.

A 4-0 win over West Brom in their third game saw Chelsea to the summit and again, they were not to be budged. They finished eight points clear of Manchester United, with Liverpool a further point back.

2016-17

W 29 D 3 L 5, 90 pts, GD +48

While they cannot match their staggering 2004-05 points tally, victory at home to Sunderland would set a new win record while even a draw would match their record from 2005-06.
