The Spanish playmaker scored as Manchester City beat Leicester.

In his seventh season at Manchester City, David Silva is proving as valuable an asset as ever.

The Spanish playmaker was to the fore again as City moved closer to securing a Champions League spot with a 2-1 victory over Leicester.

Here, Press Association Sport takes a closer look at Silva’s contribution.

Silva has been in the Premier League for such a long time that his qualities can get overlooked but there are few, if any, better at picking out passes in and around the box. The 31-year-old has been in sublime form during the second half of the season and was integral again here as he had Leicester’s defence chasing shadows.

Creativity

Silva and Leroy Sane in particular were on the same wavelength, with the Spaniard playing in his team-mate on a number of occasions on the left. Silva was less influential in attack in a scrappier second half and dropped deeper to help bring some much-needed calm to the midfield.

Goal threat

Silva is a master of making late runs into the box and that came to fruition again as he swept home Sane’s cross for the opener in the 29th minute. Silva hit the shot into the ground but it had more than enough on it to beat Kasper Schmeichel. It was the Spaniard’s eighth goal for City this season and his second in as many matches.
