Transfer Rumours - January 20
Expressandstar.com bring you all of the latest transfer talk from Wolves, West Brom, Aston Villa and Walsall.
We are not saying they are true – just that they are out there.
WOLVES
Wolves have been told it will cost them substantially more than £3million if they want to bring long-standing target Chris Wood to Molineux.
The 24-year-old only signed for Championship rivals Leeds United from Leicester City in the summer and has scored eight goals in 23 games.
Wolves were in the race to land him at the time and could apparently come calling again, but Leeds want in excess of the fee they paid for him.
Boss Kenny Jackett has some of the £10million fee Bournemouth paid for Benik Afobe this month to use, as he tries to find a replacement.
And Leeds manager Steve Evans said: "When people come in and offer us a lot of money for Chris Wood – a lot more than the president paid for him – it shows you the value others place on him."
WEST BROM
Chelsea are still the front-runners to sign West Brom striker Saido Berahino this month, sources suggest, despite Newcastle plotting a move.
The Magpies are thought to be ready to table an £18m bid to get the 22-year-old, who is out-of-favour at the Hawthorns, to St James' Park.
Tottenham Hotspur, who made three bids in August to land the England international, have also not ruled out making another offer for him.
But a move to the reigning Premier League champions - despite them almost certainly losing their crown - is what will appeal most to the player.
ASTON VILLA
Manager Remi Garde looks to have decided he wants Croatia goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic to be his first-choice goalkeeper at Aston Villa.
The 6ft 7in shot-stopper, who has two caps for his country, plays for Hajduk Split in his homeland and a £5m bid could persuade them to sell.
The 25-year-old has been put to Garde, after last night's 2-0 FA Cup victory at home to Wycombe, and he said: "I am looking for a goalkeeper and it might be this one."
WALSALL
All quiet at the Banks's Stadium today.
