Birmingham City midfielder Craig Gardner has cheeky dig at Aston Villa - WATCH
Birmingham City midfielder Craig Gardner took a cheeky dig at local rivals Aston Villa, after his side secured Championship safety on the final day of the season.
The former Villa and Albion man was thrilled to see Blues stay up courtesy of a Che Adams goal against Bristol City and didn't hesitate to rile up his former employers.
"You know what the best part of that? Them down the road didn’t help us - we didn’t need any bit of help off them," said Gardner, speaking via Birmingham City's club channel.
“I’m not even going to mention their name, the way they think they are.
“Blues fans are class people; you don’t celebrate when an opposition team score a goal and wear opposition (shirts).
“That sums them up. Are they Villa fans? Villa fans wearing Blackburn shirts?"
Gardner is expected to sign a permanent deal to stay at St Andrews in the summer after originally joining on-loan.
The midfielder made 85 appearances in two-and-a-half seasons for the Baggies, after joining from Sunderland in the summer of 2014.
He previously played for Blues between 2010 and 2011, winning the League Cup before leaving following the club's relegation from the Premier League.
