Weather thwarts speedway again
Wolverhampton’s Premiership clash with Belle Vue this evening has been postponed.
Parrys International Wolves promoter Chris Van Straaten has studied every weather forecast and sees no prospect of racing taking place at Monmore.
Understandably he’s keen to avoid a repeat of last week when the opening night was ruined by rain after only two races.
Fans who have purchased tickets will now be contacted throughout the day on Monday and offered the opportunity to roll over their purchase for the Sheffield meeting on June 7.
A provisional restaging date has been pencilled in for Monday July 26.
Van Straaten said: “I’ve been to the track early on Sunday morning and it’s perfect, we’ve had a roller in for two days and it’s superb. However, it felt like October it was that chilly.
“But we have made this decision early to minimise inconvenience for all parties, including our broadcast partners Eurosport who can now make other arrangements. Every forecast suggests overnight rain and more through through the day.
“It’s so ironic how the weather has ruined the start of the season. This time last year we were going through a heatwave and we couldn’t go anywhere, now we are raring to go and the rain has stopped us.
“The weather has to change soon because we’re all desperate to get back racing.”
