Rob Godfrey, chairman of the British Speedway Promoters Ltd, has stated the financial impact of no fans makes meetings unviable.

Poland’s top league looks set to start its season on June 12 with no spectators – but they have record levels of revenue from TV and sponsorship deals.

Godfrey said: “As a sport in the UK under the current financial structure it’s not possible for us to run behind closed doors.

“The only way it could happen is if revenue came in to underpin it, but right now we cannot see it happening so all talk of this is irrelevant.”

Meanwhile, a revised calendar has been released for the British Touring Car Championship.

Stourbridge’s three-time champion Matt Neal and the rest of the field are now set to take to the track at Donington Park on the weekend of August 1 and 2, depending on government directives.

The plan is still o end the season at Brands Hatch on November 14 and 15.

BTCC chief executive Alan Gow said: “Obviously this calendar presents a hectic four months, but our teams and drivers are fully up for the challenge – there’s such enormous energy, enthusiasm and passion for the BTCC that everyone will want to just roll up their sleeves and get the action under way.”
