It means the Heathens now have just one team spot left to complete their 2019 side.

Whitmore, a former British 250cc Youth Championship, spent the 2018 campaign with Buxton while Spencer has been handed his first National League role after making significant progress in the Midland Development League.

Club partner Gary Patchett said: “While we were looking for two-point riders I spoke to several people whose opinion I value.

“Tom Spencer’s name kept cropping up and that can’t be a coincidence.

“He’s got a good attitude and sinks all his resources into his machinery.

“He knows where his priorities are and that’s an admirable quality. I had a long chat with Lewis Whitmore about the possibility of riding for us and when I mentioned that he’d likely have to start in the main body of the team he wasn’t in the slightest bit fazed.

“In fact he was chomping at the bit to get started.

“Having three riders, if you include Harry McGurk, on similar starting averages will create some friendly rivalry and I’m sure they will all take a turn riding at No.2.”

Heathens will track Max Clegg, Tom Brennan, Danny Halsey and McGurk alongside Whitmore and Spencer in the 2019 National League season.

Their meetings will be held on Monday nights at Wolverhampton from April onwards.
