Wolverhampton speedway supremo Chris Van Straaten has hailed legendary British racer Chris ‘Bomber’ Harris ahead of next Monday’s rescheduled NGK Spark Plugs Olympique at Monmore.

Harris was the first rider to confirm his availability for the new date after the original staging was washed out after 24 hours of persistent rain in the area.

And Van Straaten said: “Chris really is a remarkable character and we saw that in the play-offs when he helped Poole to the title. As soon as I put the new date out there to riders he was first to come back and say yes, he’ll be there.

“He’s been a great servant to British Speedway, we all remember Cardiff ‘07 when he won the Grand Prix and he’s won things with Coventry down the years – and now Poole!

“His enthusiasm is still amazing and I’m sure he’d love to add the NGK Spark Plugs Olympique to his CV!”
